CVU Blue B01 finalists in their first ever tournament

Off to a great start in their first club tournament, the new CVU BU10 finished the Ventura County Fusion tournament winning two games and scoring shut outs in both wins. The Wildcats, finalists in the tournament, finished in second place.  "Player development and teamwork" were keys in the successful showing according to Coach Ramin, "the boys have come a long way and their hard work was evident in their play, I’m very proud of them."

CVU White G97 win the Santa Monica beach tournament for the second year in a row!

This year the girls advanced to the Santa Monica beach tournament semi final with a win over Olympia and a loss to the Gunners. In a tough semi final game the girls prevailed against the other Gunners team only to face the Gunners again in the final! Tough determined play from the girls gave them the trophies for the second year in a row!

CVU Blue B03 Youth Academy - 2011 Carlsbad Cup Finalist

We recently traveled down to Carlsbad for the Carlsbad Cup and played in the 2011-12 U8 bracket.  We had a very successful weekend going 4-1 and outscoring our opponents 24-4 in the five games.  Our only loss was in the finals to a talented TVSA Hawks team.  Despite playing with only one substitute in the finals due to the unanticipated Monday game, the boys fought hard all game.  Great Job Boys!!

CVU Inferno Finalists at Nike Copa Real
Jan 18, 2010

In the course of 5 games over a wet and windy weekend CVU Inferno (girls U12) took home finalists medals from the Nike Copa Real tournament.

In pool play on Saturday and Sunday Inferno turned in 3 straight wins against SASC Strikers, Madrid Premier and West Coast FC. The competition in each game was challenging and Inferno was doubly challenged as they were missing players due to injury. Sunday afternoon saw the start of the rain and a tough semi-final match against SCV Magic. In a tight game CVU Inferno played well and pulled out a 1:0 result. This game was Inferno’s 9th tournament shutout game in a row! Kudos to our keeper and our strong defensive play across the field.

The championship game on Monday saw Inferno matched against West Coast FC again (they had advanced from pool play on a wildcard and defeated Real California in the other Semi-Final). Monday also saw the arrival of the worst part of the storm system; bitterly cold, winds gusting to 30mph and rain coming down in waves. We played on the all-weather field at Crespi High School but when they had labelled it "all-weather" I don’t think this is what they anticipated! Inferno lost by a final score of 0:2, but the girls were all winners just for showing up to play in those terrible conditions!

CVU Blue B97 Wins 2010 DBWV Winter Shootout
Feb 25, 2010

CVU Wins 2010 DBWV Winter Shootout

CVU Blue B97 (CVU Slammers) played in the 2010 DBWV Winter Shootout this past weekend in Orange County.

The boys began Saturday with a well played game against Arsenal FC White. The team was connecting well and working hard. The boys created several chances on goal, yet only capitalized on one opportunity. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, but CVU clearly played very well.

Their second game on Saturday came against Canyon PSA. CVU seemed a bit lethargic but were able to build up a three goal lead. Canyon PSA came roaring back in the 2nd half and scored two goals. In the end, CVU did what they needed to do to pull out the win with a final score of 3-2.

Sunday morning saw CVU facing ASC Express. ASC had won both games on Saturday convincingly and CVU needed to win to move on to the championship game. CVU started off strong and never let down. They controlled the game and finished with a 3-0 win and a spot in the championship game.

The championship game pitted CVU against a strong and disciplined Pateadores White team. CVU started strong, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half. That’s when the Pateadores turned up the heat and put the pressure on. The pateadores scored 2 goals before the end of the half and had changed the game.

CVU played the 2nd half a bit shaky but they were scrappy and kept the game at a 2-2 tie to end regulation. The game went into two 10 minute overtime periods. Both teams played their hearts out in the first 10 minutes, neither team scoring. In the last 10 minutes of overtime CVU turned up the intensity and put three shots into the back of the net.

The game ended with a 5-2 overtime win for CVU.

The boys worked hard all weekend, earning the title of DBWV Winter Shootout Champions. Way to go CVU Slammers!

CVU Red G95 Win at the 2009 Simi Valley Labor Day Invitational

CVU Red G95 (aka Red Rockets) took the Championship in the Girls U14 Blue Flight at the September 5-7, 2009 Simi Valley Labor Day Invitational.  In the closely contested Pool Play, the team went 1-1-1, with a 2-0 win over Bakersfield Gunners, a 0-1 loss to Valley United, and a 2-2 tie with Ventura County Fusion.  The Red Rockets played through to the Elimination Round as the second place finisher in Pool Play.  In the Semifinal game against Real California, neither team could find the back of the net.  The drawn regulation time game went immediately to KFTM where the Red Rockets easily prevailed 3-0.  In the Finals, the team met up again with Ventura County Fusion.  In a very hard fought physical game, the girls won the gold with a 1-0 victory.

CVU Red G95 finalists in 2009 Santa Barbara Summer Cup

In their first tournament as a new team, CVU Red G95 (aka Red Rockets) was a Finalist in the Girls U14 Santa Cruz Flight at the August 22-23, 2009 Santa Barbara Summer Classic.  The team went undefeated in Pool Play, beating Coastal Valley Blitz (Santa Maria), Tri-Valley Freedom (San Ramon), and North Valley Venom (SFV).  In the exciting seesaw Championship Final, opponent Crescenta Valley tied the game with two minutes to go and then went on to prevail on PKs.  In four tournament matches, the high-powered Red Rockets offense outscored their opponents 13 to 4.  The team is looking forward to the start of the 2009-10 League Season.

CVU Blue G98 Champions at the 2009 Santa Barbara Summer Classic

The Girls U-11 team, CVU Blue 98 ( The Fireballs ) entered their first tournament as a club team. The Fireballs went undefeated in pool play; beating Simi Valley Eclipse 3-0, Crescenta Valley 2-1 and finished with a truly amazing 3-2 victory over Santa Barbara soccer club after being down 0-2 at the half!

The final championship game against a strong Santa Maria team finished at 2-2. In the dramatic PK shoot-out, the Fireballs came out on top and took home their first silverware of the season.  A great way to start the new season.........Congratulations to everyone connected with this talented team.

CVU Blue G93 -- Pride Opens Season with a Bang!

After three weeks of practice, scrimmages and conditioning, the CVU Pride GU-16 team was ready to get back to some action. For a change of pace, the team had decided to enter the Gold Division of the Soccer by the Bay Tournament in San Francisco. It is one of the largest tournaments in Nor Cal, so the players were anxious to get back on the field.

The first game pitted CVU Pride against Delta Storm who was quickly dispatched, with the Pride winning 6:0 in convincing fashion. Game two  against the home team, Peninsula Blast, posed more of a challenge. After failing to score on several good opportunities, the Blast were awarded a PK, and  CVU Pride found themselves down, 1:0 at the half.  The equalizer was scored early in the second half. CVU kept on the pressure, but was unable to find the back of the net and had to settle for a 1:1 tie.

The players were ready to make amends in game three against the Almaden Flames. Capitalizing on several of numerous good options to score, CVU won 4:0.

Finals were played against a Caps FC 93 team that had won all three of their prior matches.  Early pressure by the Caps kept the Pride off balance. Goalkeeper Allie stepped up with several big saves to keep the opponent scoreless. A quick counter attack freed Laura for a break away. She neatly shot the ball into the side netting for a 1:0 lead. The lead sparked the team’s confidence as they controlled most of the action for the remainder of the half.

With the start of the second half, the Caps once again applied a lot of pressure, knocking a break away opportunity off the goal post. The ensuing clearance was quickly converted into a superb counter attack with Taylor beating three players and sending in a pin point cross to Autumn who finished with a nice header.  2:0 and the game seemed well in hand, until the Caps scored on a nice play down the middle. The Caps kept up the pressure, but our defense maintained their high level of play. The Pride also had some nice opportunities to extend their lead, but some great saves by the Caps keeper, kept everything close until the final whistle sounded.

It was a great beginning for the Pride as they open their campaign in the Gold Bracket of CSL. The defense was spectacular giving up only two goals, ( one off the run of play) while supporting the attack with numerous overlapping runs and great crosses. With 13 goals scored, the midfield and offense was the highest scoring team of the tournament.

All in all a lot to be proud of on the long drive back to So Cal.

CVU Red G95 Win at the 2009 Eagles Summer Classic
Jun 15, 2009

The newly-forming CVU Red G95 (aka The Red Rockets) took first place in the Girls U13 Silver Flight at the June 13-14, 2009 Eagles Classic.  The team went undefeated in Pool Play, beating Palos Verdes Exiles, Newbury Park Cougars, and North Valley Venom.  In the Championship Final, they prevailed over San Luis Obispo Storm.  During their march to the title, the Red Rockets outscored their opponents 15 to 1.  For the team it was a promising introduction to Club tournament soccer.

CVU Juggle-A-Thon
CVU Juggle-A-Thon a great success!

Many CVU players participated, raising money for kids who are in financial need to play soccer. For the last few weeks, CVU players had collected pledges from sponsors, for a certain amount per juggle. On Saturday 16th May at the CVU Barbecue and Annual General Meeting, the players fanned out across Conejo Creek North Park and counted how many juggles they could accomplish in 15 minutes.

Over $6,000 was raised total. CVU White G95, also known as CVU Rage, generated the most money of any single team, raising $2,367. Two players on that team also raised the most money individually -- Meagan ($357) and Taylor ($315). Meagan also accomplished the most juggles in 15 minutes of any girl, with 1,400 juggles. Dylan , of CVU Blue B97, or CVU Slammers, had the most among the boys, with 2,100 juggles. It was a great effort for a very worthwhile cause.

All proceeds from the Juggle-A-Thon go to players in need of financial assistance to be able to play soccer at CVU. All donations are tax deductible as allowable by the IRS.

CVU G15 Pride Wins DBWV Shootout Premier Bracket
Apr 06, 2009

Preparing for Cal South National Cup requires playing at a high level. So, to insure a high level of competition, the CVU GU-15 Pride team decided to play in the Nomads College Show Case as well the DBWV Premier Showcase.

The Nomads tournament featured top teams from around the county.   CVU first took on PSV Union, one of the top teams from the Bay area. The first half ended a scoreless draw, but in the second half CVU raced out to a 3 to 1 win. Emily Jones crashed her second free kick against the crossbar, and Lauren Belak-Berger beat the defenders to finish for goal number one. Emily did it one better, putting the next free kick into the upper V for the 2:1 lead.  Finally, Autumn Fox finished off a great counter attack started by Taylor Perry and Fanny Lindvall.

The second game against RSF Attack was a tight affair with Lauren Belak-Berger scoring the early goal off a corner kick. Late in the second half, CVU had a couple of costly defensive lapses and the Attack capitalized to rake a 2:1 win. The third game was against the Wolfpack team. CVU started out strong, creating several good options to score.   As the game progressed, play became a littlemore sloppy, as the teams paid tribute to the high pace played in the first half. The game ended in a scoreless draw. Nonetheless, CVU qualified for the Quarter Finals. There they met the CSL gold Palmdale Thunder team. It was a very tight game with the Thunder outplaying CVU in the first half while CVU created the better of play in the second. It all ended in PK’s, where Thunder’s sixth shooter converted the deciding kick. All said and done a good weekend against some very solid competition.

The following weekend at the DBWV Shootout, CVU Pride opened against the Honolulu Bulls. Both teams played very well, with Lauren again scoring in a 1:0 contest. The second match featured the Cypress Elite, and CVU dominated the game earning another shut out in a 2:0 affair. Game three was against a very solid Ballistic team from Nevada. They scored first and had the run of play in the first half. After an “inspiring” halftime speech by coach Eric Privat, the girls came out strong grabbing the equalizer. Once again PK’s loomed. This time, CVU was not to be denied scoring a perfect 5 for 5 with Lauren, Rebecca Koval, Emily Jones, Andrea Saldarriaga and Taylor Perry each converting.

So it was on the finals where the Honolulu Bulls were waiting for a rematch. Again, this was a very close affair, and things looked destined for overtime, until Jessica Mundwiller found Autumn Fox on a great through ball. Autumn made no mistake burying the shot past the on rushing keeper into the side netting.

There is an old saying that offense wins games but defense wins championships. Clearly, this held true for CVU Pride as Keeper Allie Altman only gave up only one goal in the tourney. The Defense lead by Emily Jones, Andrea Saldarriaga, Desi McBride, Kelly Wilmont and Julie Watson only conceded 4 goals in eight games (over two tournaments), truly an outstanding performance especially considering the quality of the opposition.

In midfield, Rebecca Koval, Fanny Lindvall, Jessica Mundwiler , Sarah Ruble and Rachel Cookus played outstanding possession soccer, while making sure that no one was able to penetrate our defense.   Lindsey Clark and Autumn Fox created a lot of pressure on the opposing teams, with their outstanding speed and great crosses. Lastly, forwards Emily Bredberg, Taylor Perry and Lauren Belak-Berger got the job done.

CVU Pride (G93) Goes to High School
Mar 20, 2009

When asked why players leave AYSO or other recreational programs for the rigors of Club soccer, there are many answers.  Some want the increased competition, some better training while others just want to play year around.  But one thing that most have in common is that they want to play in High School to represent their school and community.

High school is a very different environment.  Competition for the starting lineup is tough.  You compete with players from different age groups, teams and often end up playing against your own club teammates. The one overriding issue facing each player: how do your skills compare to those of your peers?

Having ended their season on a high note with a second place finish in Silver Elite and promotion all but assured, the CVU Pride girls were eager to match their skills against all comers.

As a group made up largely of incoming Freshman, all players competed at either the Junior Varsity or Varsity Level.  Of the four players (Autumn, Taylor, Allie and Emily B.) that went to Westlake HS, two played on Junior Varsity while Allie Altman was the starting goalkeeper for the second year a row.  Taylor Perry was one of the leading scores on Varsity which ended up in a first place tie with Thousand Oaks..

Emily J and Kelly W. went to Newbury Park where they became the backbone of the JV team.

As expected, the Thousand Oaks contingent was the largest with Rachel, Ashley and Desi playing on the JV team and Jessica, Sarah and Lauren playing on Varsity.  All got a taste of the best High School has to offer, with the Marmonte League co-championship and trips to CIF playoffs.

Andrea played on the Chaminade JV team, which has been a perennial power in High School soccer. With a many seniors graduating, she is looking forward to competing for a varsity spot next year.

Fanny played for the Camarrillo High JV program and is also looking forward to making the jump to Varsity next year.

Our newest Pride member, Rebecca Koval, played varsity with great success for La Reina before coming to our team.

Lauren and Taylor were selected to the All Marmonte league second team as a sophomore and freshman respectively.

The question has been answered: CVU is a great place to train and become a High School player!

CVU Rage are Champions at 2009 California Spring Cup!
Mar 20, 2009

CVU White G95 traveled to Anaheim this past weekend to participate in the 2009 California Spring Cup hosted by Anaheim Soccer Club. CVU began the tournament with a hard fought 2-0 win over South Coast Bayern, the first goal coming late in the 1st half off a shot by Kylee that rocketed inside the far post. The second goal came late in the 2nd half with Courtney beating three defenders in the corner and carrying the ball into the penalty area where she blast a shot that was far too hot for the keeper to hang on to. The ball escaped her hands and found it's way across the goal line.

CVU's second game came against a classy Fireballs team from Oregon City, Oregon. CVU started out a bit slow but before the half Courtney was able to find the back of the net with her head off of a corner kick and shortly after that Haley was able to find the back of the net with a header of her own off of a free kick. The 2nd half found CVU dominating the game with Courtney once again scoring on a header from another corner kick. Meagan had all three assists, two on corners and one on a free kick.

After the first two games CVU had assured themselves a spot in the Championship game. They used their first game on Sunday to experiment with a few players in different positions and to rest the legs of a few players.

The Championship game was no experiment though. The girls came to play. Once again CVU was facing South Coast Bayern. This would be the third time the two teams had met this season, with the two previous meetings ending in 2-0 wins for CVU. No doubt that Bayern was out to settle a grudge.

CVU started somewhat lethargic but the first half was pretty back and forth, both teams advancing and attacking and having to play solid defense. Bayern made the decision to switch from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 in the middle of the first half which threw the CVU girls off and caused some problems. Adjustments on how to play were made at halftime and CVU responded greatly. The girls dominated the majority of the 2nd half, with Courtney scoring a goal off a corner kick. Things got a bit scary in the last 10 minutes as Bayern was pressing hard but the deal was sealed with less than minute to go when Courtney found herself on a breakaway. From an angle she shot low and to the far post, the keeper did really well to get down and get a hand on the ball but Julia was there to clean it up and finish it off. CVU finished with a 2-0 win in the Championship game.

All the girls played well. Way to go CVU!

CVU White G97 Finalist in the Rampage Pre-Season Classic Tournament
    Aug 24, 2008

In their second tournament of the season Inferno chalked up another great tournament performance at the Rampage Pre-Season Classic. Playing with their full league roster the girls took home finalist medals!

In their first game against the Eagles the girls scored early and finished the half leading by 1:0. The second half didn’t belong to them though, and the final score showed Inferno down by 1:2. Second game was against a very fast South Bay Force team and this time the Inferno girls got into their stride turning in a solid 2:0 victory which put them in the top seeded place going into the semi finals. In the semis Inferno met the Newbury Park Titans and gave up an early goal in the slick morning conditions. Trailing by 0:1 at the half the girls had everything to do, and close to the whistle finally managed to put one in the net forcing the game straight to penalties. A couple of missed shots again had us trailing, but two strong saves by Sarah and three textbook kicks resulted in a win for Inferno and a place in the finals.

The final was against the home team Rampage. This would be the second time that the girls had been matched against a Silver Elite team in tournament play. This time the girls finished the half trailing by 0:1,in the second half the girls put in a great defensive effort and although we had a couple of opportunities the final score was 0:2. A great result against a team that has been playing together for a number of years.

CVU White G95 Finalists at 2008 OC Kick-Off Classic
    Aug 24, 2008

Just two weeks after winning the 2008 FC Irvine Showcase, CVU White G95 traveled back to Irvine to participate in the 2008 Orange County Kick-Off Classic. Once again the girls were treated to quality reffing, great weather and beautiful fields.

CVU began the tournament with a convincing 3-1 win over the Wolfpack Wolverines. Their second game came against a tough Chelsea SC Black team, and after a somewhat sloppy first half CVU was able to pull it together and finish with a 3-0 win. Sunday morning saw CVU matched up against Gold Coast X-treme Heat, the game ending with a resounding 4-1 win in favor of CVU.

The championship game came against a tough PVSC Exiles Black team. The girls worked hard and had their opportunities, but at the end of regulation the score was tied at 0-0. For the second straight tournament CVU found themselves in a penalty shootout to decide the Championship. In their last tournament CVU took the Championship in a PK shootout but this time it was not meant to be. The Exiles went on to win the shootout and CVU finished as the Finalists.

In the two 2008 summer tournaments that CVU White G95 participated in they scored 20 goals and allowed just 4, finishing one tournament as Champions and the other as Finalists. Way to go CVU!

CVU White G95 Champions at 2008 FC Irvine Showcase!
    August 10, 2008

CVU White G95 traveled to Irvine this past weekend to participate in the 2008 FC Irvine Showcase.

CVU started Saturday’s games off with a 2-0 win over South Coast Bayern and ended the day with a 5-1 win over the Wolves. On Sunday morning CVU clashed with MVSC Riptide. Both teams were tied with 18 points and it would be the winner of this game that moved on to the Champioinship. After a hard fought first half the score was all even at 0-0. The second half belonged to CVU, eventually wearing down the Riptide and earning a 2-0 win.

The championship game came against a tough Freedom FC team. CVU took an early 1-0 lead but Freedom came back to tie the game with only four minutes left in regulation. The teams then played fourteen minutes of overtime and with the game still tied they moved into penalty kicks. After five shooters the teams were tied at three kicks apiece. Freedom’s sixth shot went off the crossbar and CVU took advantage. Julia stepped up and put the ball in the back of the net and the game was over. CVU were the 2008 FC Irvine Showcase Champions.

CVU White G97 Finalist in the FC Irvine Showcase Tournament
    August 10, 2008

In their first tournament outing of the season in their first season playing as CVU Inferno, the U11 girls took home finalist medals from the FC Irvine Showcase Tournament.

In a pool of 5 teams the first match was against Wolfpack. After a tough first half the score was 0:0, but in the second half the Wolfpack came out strong and the final score was 0:4 to the team that would ultimately take home the first place medals. The second game on Saturday was against the Wolves and now CVU started to really bring their game together. Final score 1:0 to CVU. On Sunday morning the girls first met Ladera United and again chalked up a 1:0 win. Going into the final game we knew that we were close to sealing our second place finish. The girls turned up the heat against Summer Heat and finished with a resounding 4:1 victory.

Our game plan was to bring to the tournament fields the lessons that the girls have been working on at the practice field and in this they were hugely successful. With each game played the Inferno looked stronger and stronger.

A great weekend of soccer and a great experience for the team!

CVU Pumas Continue Dominant Play on Pitch
    May 28, 2008

Just 6 weeks after a remarkable run at State Cup where the CVU Pumas advanced to the round of sweet 16 in the Boys U-14 division.. Unfortunately the Pumas lost a tough match 1-0 to DBWV X-Treme who went on to win the State Cup Championship. CVU White G95 Finalists at 2008 CHSA Holiday Cup
    Jan 17, 2008

CVU White GU12 traveled to Anaheim Hills to participate in the 2008 CHSA Holiday Cup this past weekend and walked away with some bumps, bruises and hardware.

The girls won their first two games, both by a score of 1-0, over Scripps United and Canyon PSA. Having won their first two games they had earned a spot in the championship game, however, the team lost two players due to injuries in the process. With tired legs and only two subs the girls faced a tough TVSA Hawks team in the championship game. CVU went down 0-2 early in the first half but was able to get a goal back just before the half on a great free kick by Meagan. With some adjustments made at halftime and a renewed energy the girls were able to disrupt the Hawks rhythm and were able to tie the game late in the 2nd half with a header goal by Meagan that found its way over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar. The game went into Golden Goal overtime and unfortunately the Hawks found the back of the net just before the end of the first overtime. It was an outstanding effort by the entire CVU team throughout the entire tournament. Great job girls! In their last six tournaments the girls have made it to three championship games (winning the CVU Tournament of Champions) and made the round of 32 in League Cup.

Natasha Belak-Berger, a former CVU player now playing for UC San Diego, has been named the Brine California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 29 – Oct. 5.
