CVU Scholar Athlete Award Program

Purpose

The purpose of the CVU Scholar Athlete Award is to recognize and reward players for excellence in academic achievement. All players are encouraged to maintain high academic standards and personal excellence while a member of the Conejo Valley United Soccer Club (the Club).

 

Goal

The goal of the program is to acknowledge players that have reached beyond their playing capabilities by maintaining high academic standards and have pursued a high level of personal excellence.

 

Program Requirements

All players of the Club are eligible to apply for academic recognition through the CVU Scholar Athlete Program. Players must meet minimum academic standards to be eligible for the academic award. An application package must be submitted and must meet all requirements as detailed in the Application Process (see below).

 

Scholar Athlete Award


Applicants must maintain a 3.0 grade point average, or better, during the quarter, trimester or semester in which the applicant participated in the Club.

Semester Awards will be recognized with Award, CVU Scholar Athlete apparel, recognition on the Club website and special recognition at the Club’s Annual Awards Banquet. Applicants must maintain a 3.0 grade point average, or better, during the quarter, trimester or semester in which the applicant participated in the Club.

GPA for all subjects will be determined by the following scale:

A - 4 points (AP courses – 5 points)
B - 3 points (AP courses – 4 points)
C - 2 points (AP courses – 3 points)

GPA equals the total grade points divided by the number of subjects:
 There can be no citizenship mark below “S” or grade below “C”
 Applicants attending schools that do not use letter grades or where the applicant is too young to receive a letter grade will be given consideration. A letter from the applicant’s teacher, on school letterhead, should be submitted. The letter must state the applicant would qualify for consideration with a minimum 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 grading system. If the letter does not specify the letter grade, the applicant will be awarded the Bronze level.

All applicants attaining the following GPA levels of achievement shall be honored as follows: 
 
3.7 - 4.0+ -  Gold
 3.3 – 3.6 – Silver
 3.0 – 3.3 – Bronze
 

Academic Award Application Process

To apply for the Award each athlete must provide the following:

  • An original photograph of the applicant alone in their full uniform. Print the player’s name, team name, contact email address, phone number and year on the back of the picture.  This photo will be used on the Club website. 
  • Unaltered, legible copy of the player’s first trimester, quarter or semester report card from their school showing the GPA. Grade check reports or unofficial report cards will not be accepted. 
  • A letter of recommendation from an adult, other than a relative, who has known the applicant for more than one year.

Program Administration
This program will be administered by the CVU Scholar-Athlete Award Committee made up of parent volunteers associated with the Club. The Committee will be overseen by the Director of Publicity. The Committee will be responsible for reviewing and selecting award recipients.  The Committee will also be responsible for all program communications and the coordinating of the awards ceremony.

 

Awards Ceremony
An awards ceremony will be planned in conjunction with the Clubs annual banquet/BBQ. We welcome award recipients to invite family, friends and others who have supported their efforts throughout the year. Recipients will receive public acknowledgement of their achievements, a certificate, and scholar athlete apparel.
