CVU Blue B97 are Finalists at 2009 CVU Tournament of Champions

CVU Blue B97 (CVU Slammers) played in the 2009 CVU Tournament of Champions over the Memorial Day weekend, their first tournament together as a newly formed team.

The boys began Saturday with a tough game against Club Deportivo Oxnard. This was the first competitive game together for the CVU team but they started to gel quickly and played a strong game that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Their second game on Saturday came against Royal Puma FC. Royal Puma will be moving to the silver division next season but CVU was not intimidated. CVU played well and went on to win the game 2-0.

Sunday morning saw CVU facing Moorpark Soccer Club. Though CVU started the game somewhat slowly they were able to pick up the speed of play in the second half, going on to win the game 2-0.

The last game of the tournament pitted CVU against a strong Real So Cal team moving up to the silver elite division next season. The boys were determined not to get pushed around and came out battling from the opening whistle. The boys fought all game long and gave Real So Cal all they coud handle. Eventually the game ended with a 4-2 win for Real So Cal.

The bracket was a five team bracket with the winner and finalist decided by overall points after each team had played each other. CVU finished as the finalist.

To come out and battle and play as well as they did in their first tournament together was great. Well done boys!
