When asked why players leave AYSO or other recreational programs for the rigors of Club soccer, there are many answers. Some want the increased competition, some better training while others just want to play year around. But one thing that most have in common is that they want to play in High School to represent their school and community.
High school is a very different environment. Competition for the starting lineup is tough. You compete with players from different age groups, teams and often end up playing against your own club teammates. The one overriding issue facing each player: how do your skills compare to those of your peers?
Having ended their season on a high note with a second place finish in Silver Elite and promotion all but assured, the CVU Pride girls were eager to match their skills against all comers.
As a group made up largely of incoming Freshman, all players competed at either the Junior Varsity or Varsity Level. Of the four players (Autumn, Taylor, Allie and Emily B.) that went to Westlake HS, two played on Junior Varsity while Allie Altman was the starting goalkeeper for the second year a row. Taylor Perry was one of the leading scores on Varsity which ended up in a first place tie with Thousand Oaks..
Emily J and Kelly W. went to Newbury Park where they became the backbone of the JV team.
As expected, the Thousand Oaks contingent was the largest with Rachel, Ashley and Desi playing on the JV team and Jessica, Sarah and Lauren playing on Varsity. All got a taste of the best High School has to offer, with the Marmonte League co-championship and trips to CIF playoffs.
Andrea played on the Chaminade JV team, which has been a perennial power in High School soccer. With a many seniors graduating, she is looking forward to competing for a varsity spot next year.
Fanny played for the Camarrillo High JV program and is also looking forward to making the jump to Varsity next year.
Our newest Pride member, Rebecca Koval, played varsity with great success for La Reina before coming to our team.
Lauren and Taylor were selected to the All Marmonte league second team as a sophomore and freshman respectively.
The question has been answered: CVU is a great place to train and become a High School player!
